The Horse with Two Names

Here’s a quick update on my writing progress. First of all, having reached the end of the first draft of ‘Heiress in Exile’ I am now gradually working through some edits, which this time seem largely to consist of changing people’s names (and the names of houses in one or two cases) which I had already planned for, and of deciding whether the name I had given someone, or indeed some horse, in chapter 7, was preferable to the one I had allocated in chapter 15. Echoes of the ‘dog with three names’ problem in the Pitkirtly series!

And talking of Pitkirtly, I’m happy to announce I’ve already written almost 7,000 words in Pitkirtly XXIX, although no title has sprung out at me yet. One thing that is driving me forward is that I have an extra, unexpected, point of view character who sees things a bit differently from the others. But don’t worry, I fully expect all the usual suspects to play their parts in the story as it goes along.

This weekend is a good one for writing, as I can listen to the ‘Classic FM Hall of Fame’ as I write. The tricky part comes right at the end when they play the top 3 pieces voted for by Classic FM listeners, and I go into a sulk because ‘The Lark Ascending’ by Vaughan WIlliams is somewhere at or near the top again. I always vote in the poll to try and ‘stop the lark’.

Apart from that, the weekend is fuelled by chocolate, also a good thing from the writing point of view!

Second Breakfast!

  1. Having just finished An Unsweetened Revenge yesterday, here’s a Pitkirtly Plot as a gift:

Christopher kills his sister, Amaryllis helps him get away with it, and there’s a 3-day celebratory ceilidh at the Queen of Scots. Of course, the title writes itself:

A Consummation Devoutly to be Wished
